This is a song I wrote about the different kinds of loss.
One More Day
One More Day
By Dee Armes-Hartmann
The day I stood on that grassy knoll, and said good-bye to that cold stone,
I thought of all the times we shared, my heart stood still, knowing I was all alone. One more day, I hold my breath, fight back the tears. I can’t see or feel you, there’s so much I want to say. Lord please, just one more day.
I gaze at all the pictures, of you as you grew up. Your tiny toes and darling smile, depending on me all the while. Yet, now you’re gone, gone away. One more day, to laugh and dance and play. Just one more day to pick you up; snuggle while in my arms you lay. Lord please, just one more day.
Chorus: Where does the wind come from and where does it go? What does it whisper and who’ll ever know? Why do we lose the ones that we love, hearts break like glass, that fall from above? I know that God saves all of our tears, I know He comforts all of our fears, the wind won’t whisper in our ears, It’s only God that knows.
Your country called and faithfully you went, as far as the east is from the west. Just yesterday I touched you, we felt each others breath. Like flesh torn from flesh I wanted you to stay. My heart cries out in pain, one more day, one more day. To see you in that old torn shirt, holding me close, looking in my eyes, every time you leave, something in me cries. Just one more day.
Each new day I wake, knowing I can never call you again. How is it that all life changes when we lose a friend? No one to laugh with when I shopped the other day, no one to understand my quirky ways. One more day, to call and talk for hours on end. To hear you say, “I know how you feel, I’ll always be your friend.” Lord, one more day.
I never knew that when a parent dies, they take a piece of you. A torn heart, a lost mind, thinking of them all the time. No home to run to, no advice on what to do. I’ll be fine though, I just really miss you. One more day to hear your guidance, to be told it’ll all be o.k. I wish you were here for me to cry to or help me along the way. Lord please, just one more day.
Alternative Chorus: The wind came, then took away my One More Day. It came from out of nowhere, robbed me from behind, took what I held precious and never gave it mind. I miss you when the wind blows, but in heaven we will find, that while life on earth was temporal, eternity has no time!
